Omar had always been a man of his hands. Back in Syria, he was a respected carpenter, his small workshop a hub of activity, filling homes with custom-made furniture. Omar’s eyes gleamed as he surveyed the new setup. He immediately volunteered to help organize the tools, his hands instinctively assessing the quality of a new saw. He began mentoring other asylum seekers, teaching them the fundamentals of carpentry, sharing his vast knowledge, and reigniting a passion for craftsmanship that had been stifled by displacement.
